It wasn't an easy decision to commit myself to this task; but I needed to to get back into creativity. Last clay sculpture I managed to finished was 3 months a go and is still laying on a shelf at home unfired.
Since I been at Lemba; I have been able to go through sack of crank clay and fire the work in dry leaves, done some drawings, paintings and most importantly started oil painting. Still the idear is to collaborate the painting in a sculptural installation.
Eventried to repeat Vincent van Gogh on the sands of the Stelios bay beach.
Firing clay with dry leaves been a great experience. Even so the result was lots of black pieces of crumbled work. I was bit rusty in controlling the fire.
Still had some good results like this Little sculpture.
Started oil painting with this image on my mind.
It is impossible for me to get my thoughts out of the history of this place. As a Cypriot young kid, I used to pass thorough Paphos and it surrounding hills every time our dad took us for a drive around the island. We used to have lots of journeys around the island, dad used to love driving around. He had lots of friends that we used to go and visit now and than.
In those days Paphos was not this much big town. The main town was divided into two as Turkish and Greek and the villages around the town were not like the way they are now. Now they are like suburbia of Paphos instead being villages of their own. To get into the Turkish Cypriot villages, we used to pass through south of check point. Sometimes they were occupied by soldiers. Even so it was difficult for me to distinct a Turk Cypriot from Greek Cypriot for my dad it was another reason for stopping the car to get out for a chat who ever was on the road.
What I really like about Paphos is you can sit down and watch the sun set any afternoon during the whole of the year.
At the mean time I have to get on with my work;
So far the progress is a muddy canvas.
I will try not to touch to this canvas anymore; I am finished with it. It was meant to be a part of an installation.
